A'ohe hana nui ka alu'ia. No task is too big when done together. The Native Hawaiian Genealogy Society (NHGSoc) is excited to announce that we are partnering with the Ka Lei Maile Ali'i Hawaiian Civic Club (HCC) in a shared effort to continue to transcribe/index the Ku'e Petitions; also known as the The Hui Aloha 'Āina Anti-Annexation Petitions of 1897-1898. Through various conversations over several weeks, both organization's Pelekikena; Lynette Hi'ilani Cruz of the Ka Lei Maile Ali'i HCC and Kāwika Kolomona Kamake'e'āina of NHGSoc, worked together to find ways in which each organization could combine their individual projects and efforts. The result is a partnership in which the information being transcribed/indexed from the Ku'e Petitions, will be combined into a single set of data that will eventually be utilized as the source for a searchable online database. This joint effort will double the number of volunteers who have come forth to kokua (assist) each organization, with this important work and provide additional data from which the final searchable online database will pull from. This will provide an opportunity to have a larger percentage of the inoa (names) on the Ku'e Petitions, transcribed/indexed. By sharing resources, each organization's individuals goals and purpose for their projects, can be realized together. While each organization will maintain their current process as it pertains to their own project, the information gathered will be mahele (shared) between the two, providing access to data at an earlier date, that would otherwise take much longer to obtain. With more and more people joining the cause, our nā kūpuna (ancestors) will finally have their moment to be recognized and their voices to be heard.
